  The General Dental Council is concerned that there is dental equipment available in the UK that is not compliant because it is counterfeit. At one hearing in 2017, a dental professional admitted to attempting to buy counterfeit dental equipment online. This equipment was seized following two inspections by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The MHRA has expressed its own worries about an increasing number of websites and online sellers offering non-compliant or counterfeit medical equipment. The risk is that these devices may be unfit for purpose, and could be potentially dangerous both for patients and for the staff using them.
